San Antonio is a great place to live and work!

San Antonio has a diversified economy with four primary focuses: financial services, government (FT Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base, and Randolph Air Force Base), Health Care and Tourism.

 FT Sam Houston which is almost central San Antonio is known as the "Home of Army Medicine" and " Home of the Combat Medic". Known as the brain trust for the Army Medical Department, the Army Medical Department Center and School trains more than 25,000 students attending 170 officer, NCO and enlisted courses in the 14 Medical Specialties. As Aresult of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC) 2005 rcommendation, all military medical training will be consolidated at FT Sam Houston. This consolidation will conclude in the opening of the Military Education and Training Campus (METC) in 2011. This will increase the average student load to more than 9,000 and will require and additional 4,000 in support staff.

FT Sam Houston Housing Office: 

The privatization of Fort Sam Houston housing took effect on March 1, 2005. The Partnership, between the Department of the Army and Lincoln Military Housing, is called Fort Sam Houston Family Housing, LP (FSHFH), which owns and operates military housing on post. The goal of the public-private partnership is to eliminate inadequate housing and provide Soldiers and their families with improved homes and high quality community and recreational amenities. The FSHFH partnership will construct, improve and maintain Fort Sam Houston family housing for the next 50 years, and assume responsibility and control over every aspect of family housing operations on post. Property management services are provided by Lincoln Military Housing (LMH). The Residential Communities Initiative (RCI) Office provides oversight of LMH.

The Privatization of Army Lodging (PAL) took effect Ausgust 15, 2009 at Fort Sam Houston. The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) and Actus Lend Lease have joined forces to bring the first branded hotels to US Army Installations. The partnership between IHG and Actus Lend Lease is called "Rest Easy" and their goal is to deliver a first-rate lodging experience that guests will love. The partnership team brings the convenience and consistency of consumer-branded hotels, affording new levels of comfort for travelers, all while providing guest experience specially tailored for Soldiers, their families and guests of the US Army. The Residential Communities Initiative (RCI) Office is the liaison for PAL.

Randolph Air Force Base serves as Headquaters of the Air Education and Training Command (AETC) as well as the Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC) and Randolph's major flying unit, the 12th Flying Training Wing (FTW). The symbol of the base is a large water tower on top of building 100 housing the Headquarters for the 12th FTW. With its distictive architecture the Wings Headquaters is known as the "Taj Mahal" or simply "The Taj".

Randolph Air Force Base Housing Office:

Pinnacle Hunt Communities (PHC), LLC manage 397 family units for Randolph AFB comprised of three- and four-bedroom town homes, duplexes, and single-family homes at this time. All units are equipped with stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, connections for electric washer/dryer and have a storage area.

The Randolph AFB government Housing Office counselors offer referral services to on-base privatized housing, assist with locating housing accommodations in the local community; and have overall responsibility for the unaccompanied personnel housing (dormitory) program. Military personnel are encouraged to submit an advanced application for on-base privatized housing. PCS orders and amendments are required to complete the application. The housing office's referral role in privatization requires review of your application, validating your eligibility, and providing you information regarding entitlements and options.

Depending on availability of Base Housing and how close you want to be to either FT Sam Houston or Randolph Air Force Base, the North East side of San Antonio has plenty small towns and communities to choose from when finding a Home for Sale close to both FT Sam Houston and Randolph Air Force bases. There are plenty of Homes for Sale in Cibolo, Schertz, Converse, Windcrest, Terrel Hills, and Garden Ridge, Live Oak, Alamo Heights (more central San Antonio and real close to FT Sam Houston) Selma, and Universal City. All of these small towns just outside San Antonio city limits provide plenty of wonderful Homes for both these Bases.

Lackland Air Force Base which is located in Southwest San Antonio is the only entry processing station for Air Force enlisted Basic Military Training (BMT). Permanently based flying units include the 433rd Airlift Wing of the Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC), Air Mobility Command (AMC) Flying C-5 Galaxies, the 149th Fighter Wing of the Texas Air National Guard and an AETC unit flying the F-16 Fighting Falcon.

Lackland Air Force Base Housing Office:

Lackland AFB has a total of 182 military family housing units located on Kelly USA. There are 684 privatized housing units located on Lackland, and Lackland Training Annex. Housing areas include Yount Circle, Capehart, Zachary, Wherry Phase I and II, Airman Scott Village I and II and Kelly Housing USA.

You may visit the housing office at your current installation to complete an advance housing application. The housing office should give you a date-stamped copy of your advance housing application. Please keep that copy with your other hand carried documents. As soon as you arrive, take the copy to the housing office at Lackland to confirm your position on the waiting list.

Depending on the availability and how close you want to be to Lackland Air Force Base you not only have Northwest to Southwest San Antonio, but also small towns like Leon valley, Helotes, Shavano Park and Castle Hills to find a Home for sale that fits your needs. There are plenty of subdivisions and communities that have Homes for Sale on this side of town for those who are coming to Lackland Air Force base.

Frost National Bank
San Antonio is the headquarters for Fraost Bank, the largest regional bank in Texas employing over 1,000 Alamo city residents. Frost is also a bank tha has been able to weather economic downturns and scary financial times during periods of nationwide turmoil.

Valero Energy Corporation
Valero has long been based in San Antonio and has grown into a national evergy giant. Valero operated refineries across the nation with almost half of them operating in Texas. In 2006, Valero Energy corporation had $90 billion in revenues and was ranked number one by Fourtune Magazine as the best big company employer.

Toyota Manufacturing Texas
Toyota is one of the very best things that could have ever happened to San Antonio. The job market in San Antonio saw tremendous expansion beginning with the construction of the plant and currently jobs within the plant and its supporting vendors based either on the Toyota property or surrounding areas. Toyota San Antonio fits well in Bexar County and its presence has resulted in the catalyst for expansion and growth of Southern San Antonio.

USAA
Military insurance headquarters for service members both enlisted and officers. USAA currently has almost $100 billion in owned and managed assets and employs 22,000 people nationwide. USAA constantly ranks amoung Fortune 500 and Fortune 200 companies in various categories and employs a large number of San Antonio residents.

Southwest Research Institute
Southwest Research, as it is called is a leader in numerous areas of experimental analysis including automaion, aerospace sciences, geosciences and engineering research fields. Southwest Research Institute sits on 1,200 acres of land in western San Antonio and employs over 3,000 researchers and scientists.

Tesoro Petroleum
Tesoro stock went from 41.85 per share in 2002 to well over $100 in 2007. In less than 5 years, Tesoro changed its corporate philosophy and direction to adapt to the changing worldwide petroleum markets and successfully emerged as a major global player in the oil and gas industry.

Boeing San Antonio
The presence of Boeing in San Antonio adds a tremendous amount fo value to the city's aerospace industry. Boeing San Antonio is located at Kelly Field and employs around 10,000 workers. The aircraft repair and maintenance facility is surrounded by aircraft parts and supply vendors that employ thousands of people for the role of supporting Boeings mission in San Antonio.

Tourism Industry
Due to famous Spanish missions (most notably the Alamo) the River Walk, the Tower of the Americas, the Alamo Bowl, Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta, San Antonio is visited by approximately 26 million tourists per year.
